Services to Expect from a Wedding Photographer

As professionals who offer such a service, let us be the first to tell you that your search for a good wedding photographer in Calgary is now over.

With almost 5 years of experience, we have a lot of insight on what makes wedding photography great.

Here, we offer some of that insight so you know what you’re getting when you hire us to capture your big day on film!

Promptness, Professionalism and a Few Odd Tricks

A lot of wedding photographers tend to show up earlier than the wedding party so they can scout the location for choice spots. We want the venue to be clear of any people, so this early timing gives us the opportunity to check different areas for lighting, angles, space and whether we’re allowed to stage the scene simply because we like it a different way.

However, you might question your choice when you see us staring at a spot for a minute, or lying down on the grass outside. We’re just looking for the best angles and how the lighting might produce a gorgeous shot, so don’t be too worried.

Remember, you hired us for our work, reputation and passion for photography. You’re in good hands.

Direction on Striking a Pose

Chances are; your wedding day would be the first time you’ll actually be standing in front of a professional camera lens. We don’t blame you for not knowing where to put your hands and how to smile without looking pained (ALA Chandler from FRIENDS).

But that’s where our experience comes in handy. We often ask couples and individuals to act out different gestures, look here and there, drop that shoulder, lift that chin or pop that hip. We know the science of posing.

And while those poses might seem unnatural to you (and a bit awkward), trust us. We’re not making you pose weirdly because it’s fun. If you can’t follow direction for a pose, ask your photographer to physically show you how to pose. They’ll be more than happy to.

An Annoyance for Uncle Bobs

In the photography world, Uncle Bobs are those relatives who insinuate themselves with the photographer because they happen to have a DSLR camera. While having a passion for photography is praise-worthy – and we don’t mind if a person shoots alongside us – it can get very annoying if a lovely shot is ruined because we were jostled or because half the group is looking the other way.

It’s really no good and it takes the professional’s attention away from the task at hand. For your photographs’ sake (and your photographer’s patience), ask your relatives to stow those cameras away until the professional is done. Then let those shutterbugs free!

Ninja-Like Abilities during the Reception

Forget seeing your photographer out and about during the reception.

With formal group shots and couples shots out of the way, this is our time to take that photojournalist route to photography and prowl around the venue for some natural, candid shots. We usually alternate between following the couple and shooting the crowd for any reactions to speeches or while they’re dancing and just having a good time.
